This comes up a lot (see thread over on NaNoFiMo) -- do you tend to write in 1st-person, 1st-multiple, 3rd person-limited or 3rd-omniscient?
does it vary depending on the type of novel you're writing? And what *is* the distinction between 3rd limited and 3rd omniscient, anyway?
I started my NaNo novel with a definite decision to write in 3rd person, limited (I think? i.e. story told from the MC's pov in the 3rd person, and sometimes from POV of other characters)
But then I wondered would it be better in the 1st person.
In general don't much like 1st-person (reading or writing) -- but, I know that the 1st person POV is a staple of classical chick-lit
I do see the value -- it's very intimate, immediate, and really does pull the reader into the story because as reader you can quickly feel everything the MC does [presumably the POV character, tho not necy, I guess]
And it's easy to write -- maybe too easy? I'm always afraid I'll slide into Mary-Suedom or ramble on and on.... (like I am right now!).
Anyway, I know there are no real rules, just curious about your own personal preferences -- as readers and writers.
As a reader, I don't think that I have a preference. I get frustrated when a story is told from three thousand POVs (a staple of the thriller!) but for Chick Lit, I think I'm pretty easy.
My current novel is third person, concentrating 75% on my female MC, with the other 25% my male MC. As a writer, I think I'm lazy; not a good admission, but I think I need that other POV to balance a conversation or scene sometimes.
